Manchester is set to welcome the world in May 2024 as it proudly hosts the 19th International Inner Wheel Convention. This global gathering holds special significance as Inner Wheel, one of the largest women's voluntary service organisations in the world, celebrates its centenary – marking 100 years since its founding right here in Manchester.

The Heart of Inner Wheel History

This convention carries a special resonance for Manchester and for Inner Wheel members worldwide. It's a homecoming—a chance to pay homage to the pioneering women who established the organisation in the city. Mrs. Margarette Golding, a nurse, businesswoman and the wife of a Manchester Rotarian, started the Inner Wheel movement. The first official meeting of the Inner Wheel Club of Manchester was on 10 January 1924. The 10th of January is now celebrated as World Inner Wheel Day (or simply Inner Wheel Day), by Clubs all over the world.

The centenary celebrations promise to be a remarkable testament to Inner Wheel's enduring legacy of friendship, service, and the transformative power of women working together.

Positive Ripples for Manchester

The convention will significantly boost Manchester's economy. Thousands of delegates will fill hotels, explore local attractions, dine at restaurants, and enjoy a taste of the city's vibrant cultural scene. This influx of visitors translates to increased revenue for businesses and a spotlight on Manchester as a welcoming destination for international events.

Beyond the convention centre, delegates will also have the opportunity to explore the wider region through a selection of fascinating tours. From historical walks tracing the footsteps of Manchester's famous Pankhursts to scenic cruises along the Manchester canals and day trips across the north of England including Liverpool, York, North Wales, the Peak District and the Lake District, there's something for everyone to discover.

Trish Douglas, International Inner Wheel President commented: "Many members are coming early to see what Manchester has to offer! They will be thrilled to be arriving into such a vibrant city. For the best part of a week Manchester will be full of excited Inner Wheel Members from around the world meeting and greeting each other, renewing friendships, making new ones and spending time exploring the city and all it has to offer. International Inner Wheel are hosting Friendship Dinners in eight wonderful venues around the city with the social finale of the Convention being our 1924 themed gala dinner."

Anthea Tilsley, Association President of Inner Wheel in GB&I commented that revisiting Manchester will be an extraordinary experience:  "100 For 100 - A Time to Celebrate " the GB&I Centenary theme has shone a light on many activities and events.
